NRA Basic Pistol

This comprehensive safety course introduces the student to the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude required to safely own and use a pistol. It is designed for students with no previous experience, and serves as a quality refresher course for intermediate and expert shooters alike.

Course Description

This objective-based course will teach the students will about pistol parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety, pistol shooting fundamentals, and shooting activities. During live-fire exercises, students will safely load, fire, and unload a pistol in casual, stress-free environment that provides ample opportunity to successfully achieve the course objectives.

Prerequisites and Costs

This course assumes that the student has no previous firearms experience.

  • Course Cost: $125 (includes course handbook, materials and handouts, and instruction)
  • Range Fees: $10 (paid to the range facility in cash)
  • Pistol Rental: $40 (Optional: Allows for the use of a pistol for the live fire exercise and includes 150 rounds of ammunition!)


Discounted Rate: Bookings for groups of 2 or more students for the Delaware Concealed Training (which includes the NRA Basic Pistol course) reduces the Course Cost to $200 per student!

Special Offer: If you would like the training, documentation, and a course completion certificate for the State of Florida's concealed license (Florida has concealed carry reciprocity with 30 states), you may do so for an additional investment of only $25 when you schedule your Delaware CCDW course. This training alone is normally offered for $120.

  3. Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
  4. Firing the First Shots
  5. Gun Maintenance and Care
  6. Pistol Sports and Shooting Activities
  7. Target Scoring and Shooting Drills for Accuracy

Required Equipment

  • Quality functional pistol. (Rentals available for $40 and includes 150 rounds of ammunition!)
  • 150-200 rounds of ammunition.
  • Clothing suited to the weather and activity. (No open toed shoes; avoid v-necks, low-cut, and collared shirts)
  • Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate safety glasses, or non-shattering prescription glasses.
  • Earmuffs and/or earplugs (electronic ear protection strongly recommended).

Course Completion

Students will receive feedback on the live-fire exercise and course completion card.. A short written exam will be presented at the end of the classroom instruction.
